Home – A Place of Retreat

April 17th, 2010 No comments

Home can be a place of refuse and peace from the storms of the world. Home doesn’t have to be a castle or a McMansion, but if it is clean, orderly and beautiful it can help cultivate the sense of calm and wellness.

Our homes can be a safe haven for those we love against the wiles, pressures and stress of the world. A home should be where children gather for protection and comfort as children and as adults, where happy memories are garnered and treasured. As the old saying goes, “All roads lead to home.”

As before mentioned homes don’t have to be huge and expensive, but if money allows there can be beautiful, creative features that can be added with a good landscape contractor to give the home that feel of a refuge and a place of retreat. I recently had the great pleasure to visit two distant relatives; they both have transformed their backyards into places of retreats. Neither one have a particularly large yard but they have installed small waterfalls, pot landscaping, decks and hidden places of beauty to read, relax and refill their personal cups. What a joy it was to eat breakfast nestled among the plants listening to the water trickle over rocks, watch the birds play amidst the trees and vegetation. A landscape contractor can add beauty and variety to an ordinary yard with patios, decks, walkways, water features or even a small hot tub if the budget allows.

Bathroom Faucet Facts Every Homeowner Should Know

April 11th, 2010 No comments

There are some facts you should know before starting to choose new bathroom taps. If you plan to simply replace the valve itself and keep the sink, then most of the work is already done. If you are replacing the entire vanity then you decide which is more important, the sink or faucet. The reason for this is simple, the valves are available in single hole, center-set and popular assemblies.

If you keep the existing sink, so all you have to do is to match the new faucet to the existing holes. This limits your choices. If you are replacing both, then the choices are almost limitless. It’s always a good idea to know a little ‘different taps available before making a selection.

bathroom faucets use washers, compression and compression to turn off the water flow. These valves are used for many years and are still available. These models are less expensive to buy. The Sentinel Kohler is just one example of this type of valve currently available.

Ball valves are becoming increasingly popular, both for use in the kitchen and bathroom. These accessories have a single handle to control the flow of water and its temperature. The ball valve was the first to be washer-less.

By far, the best bathroom faucets for those who prefer to have the handles are separate cartridge faucets. Unlike compression valves, cartridge valves do not need more pressure to stop the flow of water. As a result, the cartridge was considered more reliable than the compression and often requires less maintenance.

Disc faucets are one of the newer models to be on the market. They have a single lever to control the flow of tap water and are considered a higher quality. Price Pfister and Kohler are two well-known manufacturers that produce ceramic disc valves.

Intricate parts of bathroom faucets can play an important role in their durability and function. When used properly, faucets, can not be just a statement of style, but also water conservation.
