There are a few basic styles of patio doors that you can choose from. There are sliding doors, french doors, and garden doors. A patio door is generally a glass paneled one that operates or opens so you can access a deck or patio. There are three basic styles that offer different advantages in features.

A french doors can give you a big opening to move large items through. If you are in an area that blows alot of debris up to the doors a swinging doors either french or garden style will operate easier then a sliding doors. You must keep the track clear of debris and dirt on a sliding doors. A sliding ones has operating advantages as well. They have a zero radius swing because they slide on a track that passes the other panel. This feature can save room inside your home. They also can have a controllable opening range that can save energy opening and closing. A full size screen can come with a patio doors offering optimum ventilation when your home heats up on hot days or to let fresh air in. With the way the doors styles set it gives you the most clear glass area for sun exposure.
You can also obtain dead bolt style locking devices for sliding patio doors making them as secure as other doors. A quality sliding doors will offer years of performance with little maintenance. You can get them with a clad metal, or vinyl frame that is very easy to care for. You can also get them with a wooden brick mold frame that needs to be painted. The clad and vinyl doors come with a nailing fin that makes installing almost unnoticeable.
